Day 9- We started our morning with a good night sleep I say this cause I was in my own twin size bed. We got up to head to mass downtown Portland when, we took the wrong interstate, wrong roads, and parked at the wrong church we finally arrived at the St.Marys Cathedral church built in its current location in 1926. The organ located in the balcony, is a Murray/Harris Los Angeles Art 32 stop electro-pneumatic action pipe organ, built in 1904 for Holy Cross Church in San Francisco. After the 1906 earthquake, the organ was rebuilt. However, after the 1989 Oakland earthquake, the church was not restored, and the organ was brought to Portland, where Bond Pipe Organs, Inc. restored it and added four stops for the cathedral. This is where the boys go to school at.
After mass we went to the nike store. We each picked up a new pair of shoes. I laugh cause chris picked his off the sale rack and I believe they are golfing shoes. I guess he thinks he's a golfer now cause of last night. Just kidding he said they feel like regular shoes so he is wearing them. We grab lunch at a grocery store that was nothing I had been in before. Think of HUHOT at home well put that in a grocery store and next table down chris could order a sandwich. We was both happy with our lunch!
Next we drove an hour south to Evergreen Aircraft Museum. The new home of the Spruce Goose. The goose was made out of wood for it was on a government contract to be built to help WW2 but it couldn't use metal rations for the build. They also couldn't recruit workers from other aviation builders. So they hired guys all over the US to help build this boat with wings out of birch wood. That thing is huge and it did in fact fly for a short period of time. While I was watching the video chris got a VIP tour of the cockpit. Lucky! We didn't have much time for the closed at 5:00.
We thought we would save some stuff for next time. They have a water park and another building full of aviation equipment we didn't get to see. Matthew would like the water park!
Made it back to Portland just in time for Delaney pizza on the grill and ice cream with the kids! I can't say it enough how wonderful it is to be here with them! ❤️
Tomorrow afternoon we fly back to Iowa to see our little bear! Oh how this trip has been hard on this mama bear!
